The Tim Brickley Quintet
Called "one of the crown jewels of Indianapolis jazz" and a "hip jazz vocal stylist"  by Nuvo Magazine, Tim has performed regularly with his Quintet since 1990. Singing standards, original material, and imaginative re-arrangements of current pop, they have become a top nightclub and event attraction. A voracious student of the great singers and bandleaders from the "Golden Age of American Song" (roughly 1930 to 1960), Tim plays guitar or bass with band, or just sings, depending on the line-up. (Speaking of which, "Quintet" can be a bit misleading - the lineup changes according to size of the engagement, and is a used as generic name for Tim's small-group bands. The normal configuration is actually six-piece: drums, bass, piano and/or guitar, sax, trumpet and Tim singing.) As a songwriter, he's spent most of his adult life studying the masterworks of Gerswhin, Porter, Arlen, Mercer, etc., and as such, has a working repertiore of hundreds of songs. That flexibility - and the amazing musicians he's assembled - means that every night is different, every show can be specifically tailored to meet the needs of that particular performance. Corporate event or elegant reception? Cocktail, dinner music and after-dinner dancing? High-energy swing dance? Serious jazz for a nightclub or party? That's how we roll...

Since 1988, Tim and various versions of the Quintet have been performing at the Indianapolis jazz landmark  Chatterbox Tavern. In the now-vibrant Mass. Avenue arts district, Tim calls the Chatterbox (635 Mass. Ave, Indianapolis, IN) the "greatest little dive in the universe - my Jazz Valhalla", and it's a must-stop on your next trip to Indy.
